Fortunate.....or Not???

What a way to end the year!

Unfortunately, while putting away our Christmas decorations Friday afternoon, my poor hubby slipped and fell off the ladder...about 7 feet from the ground. Fortunately, the corner of his work bench broke his fall preventing him from landing solidly on the cement garage floor. Unfortunately, hitting the work bench hurt his back and caused him to slam forward into the ladder, also hurting his stomach. Fortunately, he just seemed dazed and a little sore Friday so he decided to tough it out. Unfortunately, Saturday morning he was VERY sore and questioning his decision not to seek medical treatment Friday. Fortunately, we have the option of going to the Urgent Care facility which is only a fraction of the cost of the ER and is much less crowded. Unfortunately, the urgent care doctor did a little poking and prodding and said, "I don't like the tenderness I feel in the area of the liver; you need a CT scan to check the liver and kidney and we don't have the equipment to do that here and normally we would send you across the street to the Imaging Center, but they are closed on weekends, so we have to send you to the ER." Fortunately, the ER is just down the sidewalk and the attendant put my hubby in a wheelchair and pushed him into the ER with me following alongside... supposedly we would get much quicker attention because the Urgent Care was delivering him instead of us just walking in on our own. Unfortunately, the ER was completely packed and we had to wait just like everyone else. Fortunately, after a couple of hours of waiting, they opened an ER annex room and admitted 5 patients including my hubby. Unfortunately, they had to do blood work before they could perform the CT scan and we had to wait an hour for the lab results to come back. Fortunately, the blood work was all normal, so they ordered the CT scan. Unfortunately, more waiting and by now 5 hours had passed. Fortunately, the scan was finally taken and was quick and not too painful. Unfortunately, it would be another hour before the radiologist could read the results and send them back to the ER doctor. Fortunately, the scan came back and the ER doctor reported to us that there was no damage to the liver or kidney. Unfortunately, my hubby does indeed have a broken rib and a huge contusion. Fortunately, he got a prescription for some strong pain meds and they released him 7 hours after arriving. Unfortunately, by the time we got home it was late in the evening and our normal pharmacy was closed. Fortunately, I was able to find a pharmacy close to home that was open and get his prescriptions filled. Unfortunately, yesterday the poor guy got up with a sore throat and yes, a COUGH (bad news for someone with a broken rib). Fortunately, today the cough is a little better and he is keeping it under control with the help of cough syrup. Unfortunately, he is still having quite a bit of pain and not getting around too well. Fortunately, he should be able to mend enough to go back to work Wednesday. Unfortunately, he spent the last days of his vacation and 2007 sore, tired, and miserable! Fortunately, his injuries will heal in 3-4 weeks and he will be fine and dandy.

Happy New Year to everyone and my best advice for 2008.....
STAY OFF OF LADDERS!!!

Wow! What an ordeal. Are you sure Young Kyle wasn't around to PUSH poor Steve off the ladder? I hope his recovery goes well, without too much pain. Take care and Happy New Year to all!

Jim,

I don't see any way to blame this one on Kyle; Steve managed to get banged up quite nicely all by himself :(

Thank you for the comment and Happy New Year to you and Darlene.

What an awful way to end 2007! I hope that Steve is feeling better by now and that the soreness is gone, as well as being over the crud. That stuff has been hitting the whole country. Getting injured probably brought his immune system down and the evil bug bit him.

Here's to safe and happy 2008!!
